Radical Living

We hear a lot of talk today in Christian circles of adopting a radical lifestyle, to eschew all the trappings of American society and focus more on reaching a lost world for Christ and ministering to the poor. This is all good, but I catch a theme in Paul’s writings of Chrisitans leading a quiet, respectful, simple, dignified, obdeient, self-supporting, God and man-honoring lifestyle (1 Timothy 2:2, 1 Thess. 4:11, 2 Thess. 3:12). When the world observes such a man, who is at peace with his God, his fellow man, and himself, how can they not be compelled to wonder what’s up? While some may want to prod this man to “get in the game,” he might, in fact, be a giant back-lit billboard for God. I think we underestimate the power of a simple faithful Christian life, and I am not taking away from the convicting sayings of Jesus. You still have to be about the whole “going” process. As our society continues to deteriorate, this kind of radical living will standout more and more.
