Living Each Day as My Last

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing. 2 Timothy 4:7-8

I should live every day as Paul did, contending for the faith, finishing my course in the faith, and guarding the faith. I should envision the final words I might scribble out in my last days, expressing relief that what I set out to do I did.

Too many wander aimlesly in the faith, flitting back and forth from pursuit to pursuit, as a bee buzzing around in a bed of fresh flowers. I should always ask myself, “Am I doing what I’ve been called to do?”

This begs the question: Do I know my calling? Have I reduced it to a personal credo by now? Paul’s was contending, finishing, guarding.

Easy enough said. Hard to do.

He goes on to say the “crown of righteousness” has been, and will continue to be, his aim.  This prize is not only available for such a “super saint,” but for “all who love his appearing.” That would be me.

It may very well be that my calling is simply to live each day as if it will be the very day in which the Lord returns.

“Living each day as my last.”

How’s that for a credo?

One response to “Living Each Day as My Last”

  1. That’s a good one! We are not guaranteed a future – not even the next moment. We’d probably all be better off if we lived each day as though we were fixing to meet the Lord.
