The Bible Says

24 “For all people are like grass,
and all their glory is like the flowers of the field;
the grass withers and the flowers fall,
25 but the word of the Lord endures forever.”
And this is the word that was preached to you. 1 Peter 1:24-25

I watched a documentary on the life of a Billy Graham a few nights ago. There was a critical juncture in his ministry where he doubted the accuracy and authority of the Bible. I know, it’s hard to believe.

Through much prayer and soul-searching, he determined, under a starry sky in his beloved North Carolina mountains, that it was true, cover to cover. There, was born his famous preface, “The Bible says.”

Though Billy’s body could endure no more than 99 years on this earth, the word that he preached lives on, still as powerful to save as ever. And that word is ours to hold in our hands and hearts. It’s the anchor of our souls as we tread this earth as pilgrims, or as Peter would say, as aliens, just a little bit longer.
