Tripping the Light Fantastic

You husbands in the same way, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with someone weaker, since she is a woman; and show her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered. 1 Peter 3:7

Husbands were not to submit themselves also to their wives, in some kind of 50-50 relationship, but were ordered to be understanding of and adapt to their wives’ physical and emotional makeups.

With our natural brawn and built-in insensitivity, we can be, without wanting to, real boors! Peter calls for us to be super-tender and aware.

But this doesn’t mean we tiptoe around, unless its a ballet. Want to to be godly husband to your wife? You must dance with her, not drag her around like some caveman. After all, she’s precious in God’s eyes as one of his. We must think the same way. Otherwise our prayers will be short-circuited.
