“And not moved away from the hope of the gospel that you have heard, which was proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, was made a minister.” Colossians 1:23
In the gospel of Jesus Christ is hope. The Colossians were in danger of “moving away” from this hope. The Greek word for this typically subtle process is metakineo, “to remove oneself, or shift away from.”
At issue here was the simplicity of the gospel that had been preached by Paul and others, not so much the technical aspects of sound doctrine, things that were perhaps difficult to understand for which the Apostle was also known. (2 Peter 3:16)
If you live long enough, your personal faith will be tested. I recall even John the Baptist had questions in the end. When your time comes, stand firm remembering “the hope laid up for you in heaven, of which you previously heard in the word of truth, the gospel.” Colossians 1:5
