21 When there is a man who has labored with wisdom, knowledge and skill, then he gives his legacy to one who has not labored with them. This too is vanity and a great evil. 22 For what does a man get in all his labor and in his striving with which he labors under the sun? Ecclesiastes 2:21-22
In order to protect what has been bequeathed to you and not lose it, the same wisdom, knowledge, and skill applied by your predecessor must be applied. What has been passed down is more than money and other assets, but knowledge and wisdom. This question should always be ringing in your ears, “What would my dad (or benefactor or mentor) do in this situation?” More importantly, what does the Bible say about this situation? If even that is silent, we’ve got to believe that the Lord will mysteriously guide us in the way we should go. We should never go forth in fear and trepidation if guided by almighty God.
23 Because all his days his task is painful and grievous; even at night his mind does not rest. This too is vanity. Ecclesiastes 2:23
I have been there, done that. For more days than not, in my risk-fraught careers, I’ve been wrapped in a wad of worry. Yes, there have been sleepless nights when I’ve awakened in “cold sweats.” There’s really nothing you can do about it other than to throw up your hands to God, or cast yourself at his feet. One’s pursuits are always accompanied with some pain and grief. While we are to look to God for relief in the depths of our soul, we can expect a practical solution to come from him that must be enacted “under the sun.” That too may and probably will be painful, but it being ordained must be done in his strength.
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6–7
