Things We Should Believe In

Everything God does will remain. Ecclesiastes 3:14

Some of us quickly remember our sins. If we remember them, surely he does! Then how can we ever be free?

I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.” Jeremiah 31:34

God has so worked that men should fear him. Ecclesiastes 3:14

The whole point of our experiences in life is to get us to “fear” God, or to understand his awesomeness. Our abject failures and our glorious victories are designed to lead us to God. He controls both. His intent is to always remind us of our fragility and his hegemony.

God seeks what has passed by. Ecclesiastes 3:15

God does not abandon us. He’s always open to redeem the lost, even those he appears to have written off, except he has limited himself to our time on earth. There will be no mercy extended when the door is shut. For example, the door to the Ark.

God will judge both the righteous man and the wicked man. Ecclesiastes 3:17

Nobody gets away with murder, we understand that, but why judge the righteous man? Because there is none righteous, no not one!

1 The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, they have committed abominable deeds; there is no one who does good. 2 The Lord has looked down from heaven upon the sons of men to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God. 3 They have all turned aside, together they have become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one. Psalm 14:1–3

This is cause for concern. Then why be good? Why attempt to rectify our evil tendencies if we are hopelessly stuck in our unrighteousness?

God 6 who will render to each person according to his deeds: 7 to those who by perseverance in doing good seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life; 8 but to those who are selfishly ambitious and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, wrath and indignation. Romans 2:6–8

Because he seeks to extend grace, unmerited favor, to all who acknowledge and confess their sin to him and do not hide their iniquities.

5 I acknowledged my sin to You, and my iniquity I did not hide; I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord”; and You forgave the guilt of my sin. Psalm 32:5

Everyone has a chance. Everyone gets judged. Everyone who perseveres in doing good, and the selfishly ambitious. Up for grabs: glory, honor, immortality, and eternal life.

God has surely tested the sons of men. Ecclesiastes 3:18

If we draw breath, we are in the midst of being tested by him. If we do not take tests well, like me, so much better it is to set aside our No. 2 pencils and throw ourselves at his feet to receive mercy. Where in life is such an option available? This is where he wants us to be.
