This is His commandment, that we believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as He commanded us. (1 John 3:23)
While we may be born of God and are positionally Christians, from our birthdate onward we should practically act in such a way that people know that we are other worldly.
A soldier is molded into a fighter in boot camp, and instilled with the purpose for which he fights, to protect his or her country. In our salvation experience, from the presence of the Holy Spirit in us, and from the deeds done in habitual obedience to His will, we are seen by others in God’s uniform, that we wear with honor, that we live up to because of the sinfess life of Jesus, who fought the battle without sinning, and set the standard of excellence for us all.
Soldiers, police officers, doctors, witnesses, all have to take an oath. Unwittingly and without expending any of our energy, we have come to “believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ.” We may see the nature of this heavenly transaction differently, but the simple fact is that he has given birth to us, and now, because of what He did, which was done in pure love, we must “love one another.” That is what we do. That is our purpose, our mission in life for which we raise our right hand to uphold. It’s not a suggestion, but a manifestation of the reality of our position and calling, and made possible only by our rigorous training under the tutelage of His Spirit.
They will know we are Christians by our love, by our love.
