Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of the prophecy, and heed the things which are written in it; for the time is near. (Revelation 1:3)
Some churches steer clear of Bible prophecy, claiming to do us a favor by avoiding the study of “end times” because it’s too controversial or difficult to understand. In reality, church leaders don’t wish to alienate anyone by coming down on one side or the other, so it’s not addressed or discussed, and books like Revelation are relegated to the bench and get no playing time.
Despite its promise to bless those who read, hear, and heed the things which are written in it, having control over the preaching schedule means possessing the ability to withhold blessings from the church body and clarity about that which lies ahead.
If the pastor does not come down squarely on a particular position, and carefully articulate the subtleties to his flock, expect his church to lack backbone and clarity as well. Nothing good comes from this posture.
And he said to me, “Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is near.” (Revelation 22:10)
Stop “sealing up” the last book of the Bible and other passages that might give us a picture of what lies ahead, robbing us of our blessings!
