13 And I saw coming out of the mouth of the dragon and out of the mouth of the beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet, three unclean spirits like frogs; 14 for they are spirits of demons, performing signs, which go out to the kings of the whole world, to gather them together for the war of the great day of God, the Almighty. (Revelation 16:13–14)
In junior high school, word would travel fast that two guys were going to fight after school and where. These “tough guys” seemed magnetically drawn to the event, unaware of all the bad consequences. The 3:00 o’clock hour couldn’t arrive soon enough for them.
The same kind of spell will be cast on the “kings of the whole world” who will be influenced, if not blinded, by the “three frogs.” Given the origin of these vile emissaries, only mass calamity awaited. My memory of chasing frogs when I was a kid is that they’re always “slimy.” But the driving force was not Satan, the Antichrist, or the beast, but God himself, orchestrating the Final Battle. He wanted to consolidate evil into one place, to rid the world of it in one fell swoop. Satan, on the other hand, knew all along it’d come to this, and wanted as much help as he could get. Misery loves company.
The powder keg of the world, the Middle East, particularly Israel, has been and will always be the scene of this Final Battle, “the great day of God, the Almighty.” You can bet on it.
15 (“Behold, I am coming like a thief. Blessed is the one who stays awake and keeps his clothes, so that he will not walk about naked and men will not see his shame.”) 16 And they gathered them together to the place which in Hebrew is called Har-Magedon. (Revelation 16:15–16)
Har-Magedon is commonly referred to as Armageddon. The final battle will be fought on the expansive plains near the Mount of Megiddo (the Jezreel Valley or “the plain of Esdraelon”) some 60 miles north of Jerusalem. This is the same place where Gideon triumphed with 300 men and a trumpet. This “final battle” concludes a vicious door-to door campaign, that is “a war,” in Jerusalem.
For I will gather all the nations against Jerusalem to battle, and the city will be captured, the houses plundered, the women ravished and half of the city exiled, but the rest of the people will not be cut off from the city. Then the Lord will go forth and fight against those nations, as when He fights on a day of battle. In that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, which is in front of Jerusalem on the east; and the Mount of Olives will be split in its middle from east to west by a very large valley, so that half of the mountain will move toward the north and the other half toward the south. (Zechariah 14:2-4)
It all ends here.
