League of His Own

13 When the devil had finished every temptation, he left Him until an opportune time. Luke 4:13 (NAS)

There’s a lot to learn from from this short verse. The devil is thorough, “When he had finished every temptation.” He used everything in his bag of tricks. His “opportunity” on this occasion was Jesus’ hunger. He does like to use our physical needs and desires, but he can use victories (over confidence) and defeats (depression). He also loves to get us isolated. Bad things happen when we’re all alone. Ask David. Here Jesus used the Word of God to resist and he won the skirmish. The devil retreated until he saw another apparent opening. It is interesting that the Devil could not sense from this encounter that Jesus was in a league of his own.
