28 And all the people in the synagogue were filled with rage as they heard these things; 29 and they got up and drove Him out of the city, and led Him to the brow of the hill on which their city had been built, in order to throw Him down the cliff. 30 But passing through their midst, He went His way.

In the wilderness Satan invited Jesus to throw himself off the cliff, assuring him that he’d be caught by angels. When his schemes didn’t work, he left him for a more opportune time. I guess he chose to force the issue here, using enraged congregants to drive Jesus to the brow of the hill in order to push him off the cliff. Imagine the devil’s shock when Jesus suspended animation and walked through the mob and went his way. As a matter of fact, until it was his time, Jesus went his own way. It’s also noteworthy that he pushed the necessary buttons in the synagogue early on to bring their deep seated resentment to a head. He was already making big waves. Regarding Satan, he has one goal, death.
