Yet we do speak wisdom among those who are mature; a wisdom, however, not of this age nor of the rulers of bthis age, who are passing away; 1 Corinthians 2:6
The truly saved are supplied the spirit of God at rebirth (Romans 5:5, Acts 15:8), but it would seem that it is under utilized. To equate this to something we can understand, I use a couple of computer programs each day, but tap only a tiny fraction of their capabilities. This is because I haven’t taken the time to learn what they can do. Essentially, software has been designed rich in features to expedite our work, and perhaps to do our work if we can harness its power. It is also like driving 30 mph in a Ferrari. It’s capable of so much more if step on the accelerator.
Paul is making the same point in these verses but regarding the unfathomable wisdom that has been granted to us in Christ. Perhaps in the beginning Paul got the Corinthians’ attention with demonstrations of God’s “Spirit and of power” (1 Corinthians 2:4), but only for the ultimate purpose of installing the “software” which is God’s wisdom. Once in place, that is, the mind of Christ, he could operate at another level, encouraging the saved to employ the wisdom that was now onboard, installed in their minds and hearts.
7 but we speak God’s wisdom in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God predestined before the ages to our glory; 8 the wisdom which none of the rulers of this age has understood; for if they had understood it they would not have crucified the Lord of glory; 1 Corinthians 2:7–8
This wisdom was heretofore unworldly and unknown, a mystery, and certainly was not understood, or the powers that be would not have crucified Jesus but would have bowed at his feet. All this to say that Paul wanted to converse with the gifted church at Corinth with the wisdom of God, a language in which by that time they’d be (in theory) conversant. He wanted to discuss the following:
“Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard,
And which have not entered the heart of man,
All that God has prepared for those who love Him.” 1 Corinthians 2:9
He also wanted to introduce them to their new and powerful “search engine.”
For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God. 1 Corinthians 2:10
All this intelligence is anything but artificial!
