15 But he who is spiritual appraises all things, yet he himself is appraised by no one.
16 For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he will instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ. 1 Corinthians 2:15–16
Some would say in the common vernacular that this is very cool. When we become a Christian we receive the mind of Christ. As such, we can appraise all things.
The Greek word for appraise, anakrinei, means “to judge” or to “ask a question.” Our answer is typically, “Who can know the mind of the Lord that we might instruct him?” While we might be capable of seeing things that the unregenerate might not see, we are first to observe, to accept, and to ponder how unfathomable are his ways. We certainly understand with clarity that no one instructs God.
Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways! Romans 11:33
Our gift of understanding causes us not to be proud and arrogant, but in awe. We should be seeing God’s hand in everything, and if we have the mind of Christ, just as he understood the people for whom he came, so should we, and we too should have empathy for the lost, and extend mercy to the downtrodden, and speak wisdom to all with whom we come in contact, pointing out that almighty God’s hand is in everything.
